These materials include scissors, a yarn needle, a pair of size ten US knitting needles, and approximately 100 yards of a bulky wool yarn or your favorite acrylic wool yarn.  Along with these materials, the gauge should be seventeen rows and eighteen stitches in a two-by-two ribbing. These materials can make a hat approximately nine inches tall and sixteen inches around if not stretched. Since we already have the materials, we can begin making the hat patterns.

First, start with casting on seventy-two stitches. Then, work in knit two. Purl two ribbings that can be worked on multiples of four stitches for about eight inches. For the next row, knit two, purl two, and repeat the process from across. Next, do the next three rows utilizing the stockinet stitch wherein you knit the first row one and purl the second. After, knit two together and repeat the process from across. Weave the end via the bound off edge. Ensure that you pull firmly to close the hole on the top of the hat. Finally, sew the side seam, and weave in the remaining ends from top to bottom.

Creating new knitted hat patterns can also be done by utilizing a different method, useful if you find the aforementioned technique difficult. You will need a pair of scissors, a yarn needle, a small quantity of smooth wool yarn that will blend with your base yarn, one pair of size nineteen US needles, and one skein or thirty-four yards of yarn. Ensure that the gauge is two rows per inch and one and a half stitches in garter stitch.

From here, start with casting on fifteen stitches. Knit each row until your project measures fifteen inches. Bind off and then cut the yarn. Then, sew the bound-off edge to the cast-on edge with the smooth yarn. Finally, thread the smooth yarn by the stitches to one of the sides of the tube you made. Pull tightly, ensure that there is no extra hole, and thread the yarn back through the stitches. Cut and weave in the ends. And also learn how to cast off knitting, this is to get rid of those noticeable edges on the apparel.
